Our Story

Picture of Our Story

Blake and Caroline met on North Campus at the University of Georgia on their first day of law school orientation. A few days later, Blake asked Caroline to join him on an Athens, Georgia rooftop for their first date, where Blake opened a bottle of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 2018 Artemis, the same winery that iconized Napa Valley in 1976 when it was awarded the highest red wine honor at the Judgment of Paris Tasting. Caroline still has the cork from their first date.

Two years after their first date, Blake and Caroline's fathers, Tom Annexstad and David Henriksen, founded Grand Opening Wines. Through its 2023 Chardonnay and 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, Grand Opening Wines provides funding to the Wilbanks Child Endangerment and Sexual Exploitation (CEASE) Clinic at the University of Georgia School of Law, providing legal representation to over 250 survivors of child sexual abuse, exploitation, and trafficking in civil lawsuits, juvenile court dependency proceedings, and post-conviction relief matters. At the University of Georgia School of Law, Caroline served as a Student Attorney for the CEASE Clinic. Marlan Wilbanks, founder of the CEASE Clinic, is one of Tom Annexstad's closest friends.

Grapes from Grand Opening Wines 2023 Chardonnay are sourced from the Rodgers Creek Vineyard in Sonoma, California, and grapes from Grand Opening Wines 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced from the Rutherford A2 Vineyard in Napa Valley. Caroline still has the corks from the first vintages of the 2023 Chardonnay and the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon.

In 2024, Blake and Caroline graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law. Caroline still has the cork from their graduation.

A few months after their graduation from the University of Georgia School of Law, Blake asked Caroline to join him on a Maui, Hawaii beach for their first date as an engaged couple. Blake got down on one knee. Caroline said yes. Caroline still has the cork from their engagement.

Blake and Caroline have deep roots in Alpharetta, Georgia, at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, and in Napa Valley. They are excited to join their friends and family in Napa Valley on June 13, 2026 for their first date as husband and wife.

Caroline will keep the cork from their wedding.

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the Gardener."
